@Growdoc Hey! I was hoping you could provide some input on these girls? 45 days now. They are filling out nicely and very sticky. What are your thoughts on defoliation at this point in the grow ? Feel like some of the smaller snacks are not getting much light. Also, I know I probably have at least 30 more days if not more, at what point will I be able to know they are getting close to chop day?
Your girls are slightly droopy and I went back to the start of the post and saw they were then too, early pics show your soil to be fairly wet, so do make sure and let them dry back before watering again if in soil or Promix. When the white pistols turn orange and draw back into the calyx’s, then you will want to start monitoring the color of the trichomes with a scope . I’ll help you check them when you get there, just tag me anytime and we’ll get you through this round and on to the next. Nice job so far. As far as defoliation, I’m a believer that leaves are solar panels that power growth, so I leave what isn’t blocking light to another bud site. I defol at 3 weeks into flower and again at 6 weeks if needed, only taking big fans that block light.
@Growdoc Thanks for the reassurance! I will definitely scale back on giving water and see if she perks up. I have been doing about a half gallon a day for them as I was thinking she would be extra thirsty with all the work shes putting in but I probably got overexcited and did too much too often. Thanks again !
That is exactly the problem. Let them dry until it feels like a loaf of bread, very light. Then, water slowly until you get a tiny bit out the bottom, then let them dry up again before watering. Usually takes 3 days in veg and 2 in flower when they are drinking heavier. Bigger pots take even longer to dry. Cannabis wants a drench to drought routine for watering in soil and I do my Promix the same.
Overwatering isn’t giving too ZMUCH water, it’s giving water too often and it hurts the roots then shows up in leaves. You’ll be fine with more dry time.
@MsGreenThumbs , how are they doing?
@Growdoc I think they are doing good for now. I eased up on watering frequencing and that seemed to help the drooping! I also raised my lights about 8 inches more because I think they were getting a little crispy and dry on the thinner ends. I thought maybe nutrient issue but lights seemed more indicative of what I was seeing, just based off experience with house plants. Sooo I did let my obsessive compulsive take over because naturally, being a woman, I can’t possibly leave well enough alone.. I did defoliate a bit and clip off most of the small bud sites under the canopy. Here are some updated pics.
Im sure they look pretty rugged compared to most, but Im just happy Ive made it this far in my first ever grow.
They do show improvement, keep it up! They will continue to improve the longer they have what they want. Nice job.
Thanks ! Do you think the buds will continue to put on some weight or fatten up a bit? I see some pretty bulky buds on this forum so I don’t know what to expect.
You’re kicking a** over there!
Definitely trying!
They will fatten up with time, they really start building in the 4th or 5th week for me. These are 5 weeks from flip today or 3rd week of true flower.
Ooh doc! Those girls are fancy looking ! I will definitely have a go at photos soon after seening your lovelies ![]()
Very beautiful plants, and a lot of breeders say autos are good for learning bc " they do it on their own" but photos are so much more forgiving and corrected bs autos. The repair you’ve done to the autos your gonna knock photos out of the park. Keep up the great work sis
Awe Thanks ! Everyone said autos can’t be messed with but I have literally topped both, lst, broken branches being too rough, defoliated, only intuitively fed them nutes and probably been way too hands on with them and they have been a breeze and pleasure to grow thus far so I don’t know what all the hype about them being difficult is. I figure with a good healthy start and my secret ammendment in the soil, you can do pretty much anything to healthy plants and still rock it. Cant wait to try my hand at photos now ! Any recommendations on a shorter (height) photo strain that is really pretty and unique looking ? Or just fun to grow?
Or the purple kush fem.
They should stay on the shorter side I would think. Or you could just crop them and make them do what you want. Lol should check out some of the things @kaptain3d has been doing with plants.
Oh wow, he is into some plant bondage lol. Neat stuff, think I may look into doing artistic variations of that kind of training. Thanks !
My pleasure, if I was to make a suggestion to try on photos I’m going to do it on my next grow, I tried it on my last grow well a variation… Mainline.
